Not everyone pursuing a college degree fits into the mold of the traditional student. Caregivers, veterans, remote students, full-time workers, and older students can sometimes feel alienated or unaccounted for on campus, but they have the same right to a quality education as the rest of the student body.

To support non-traditional students, The Law Offices of John Morrison is opening the New Chapter Scholarship, providing a $1,000 award to help cover the cost of tuition, class materials, and other college expenses. We will accept applications until March 17, 2027.

Who Can Apply?

Please review our scholarship criteria before submitting your application.

  • You must be a “non-traditional” student in some way (e.g., over age 24, working full-time, a parent, et cetera).
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States for the Spring or Fall 2027 semesters.
  • You must be at least 17 years old.
  • You must be a citizen of the United States.

Submitting Your
Application

If you meet the eligibility requirements for the New Chapter Scholarship, we invite you to submit a roughly 500-word essay responding to the prompt below:

Applicants must attach proof of enrollment at an accredited four-year school as well as an unofficial transcript with a recorded GPA.

ESSAY PROMPT

What difficulties have you faced in college due to your non-traditional background? What strengths have you developed from those experiences, or from overcoming those challenges?

Evaluation Criteria

Our scholarship judges will evaluate all applications according to these criteria:

  • Strength of narrative
  • Clear and complete response to prompt
  • Thoughtful structure and organization of essay
